Strange sound from trunk

Over the past week I have been hearing a high pitch sound coming from the rear of my car by the gas tank. It happens mostly when I accelerate and it sounds like a small fan that is spinning really fast. I am worried that it might have to do with the pump for the gas tank maybe?

Yes. That is the exact noise that I am hearing a high pitched whining noise. Is it anything to be concerned about or can I do anything about it?

Yep, it's probably the fuel pump. Is your car running ok? Is it slower than usual, can you smell gasoline? I would have it looked at and chances are you'll have to replace the fuel pump. Then again, you could just have a loud fuel pump. If you've ever heard GM trucks, their fuel pumps are whining constantly and that's normal.

Unless you see gas on the ground or a strong smell of gas, don't be worried, the sound is normal.
