Very Nice car....!!

I didn't know you're both running the classic 18" mono wheels..

IMO these looks best on W202 AMG, and this is how we should represent W202 AMG's...

And off course it is definitely one sick ride with all those torque.. :D

Regardz,

Awesome project. Glad to see it through, I bet several members will look into doing the same. (Hint Hint ;) )

Which car did you get the engine from? Did you get the tranny as well? It would be cool if you were able to do the Tiptronic tranny swap as well!

edit: That black 43 looks like mine with a NY front plate.

Any 5.5L motor from any of the NA V8 AMG's or AMG

ML55 truck will wrk. I got the motor from a salvage yard in Miami.I saw it on

the net(ebay).LUCK!

I'm using the stck C43 tranny. It's basically the same exact

tranny in all the V8's and V12's.MB did this to keep costs

down. The E55 tranny may be a tad built up internally.Donnie,

formerly of www.mbautowerks.com says that the C43 tranny can

handle a lot of torque and will be fine. After all there are a lot of

F/I E430's and a couple of F/I C43's out there but a NA 5.5L

motor is not gonna put out the same torque as a F/I 4.3L or F/I

5.5L.So the c43 tranny will still love you!LOL!

You don't have to swap the tranny to do the tiptronic

mod.My mechanic said that all he has to do is chng the module

and the shifter and some minor stuff to convert the tranny we

use now into the tiptronic tranny.Other than that(2000-2003 or

5 in the NA 8's are using the same tranny as us other than there

use of a tiptronic shifter. It is basically the same tranny. To be

honest with you,I found that when I raced my friend,he had his

car in 4th and the ESP off while I shifted and for some reason the

car(his blk C43) did a better job shifting than I did.He actually got me by

surprise the first time we did a light to light run. When I decided

to put my car in 4th,ESP off etc etc,the outcome was a big

difference when we raced with me owning him from a stop to a

nice 1/4 mile marker. I guess it all depends on what you like. I

also test drove a 2005 E500 and it drove better and shifted

quicker with the tranny in 4th as opposed to me using the

tiptronic.

PS this was the case in my Dad's Acura TL type S also.Leave it in

4th compared to me shifting with pedal to the flr in both cases

with the TL, the car shifted better on its own with the engine. Go

figure.I think the tranny shifts better than us when you want to

race from a light.Just keep it in 4th with the ESP off. Sorry for the

long drawn out explanation.Stay tuned, dyno and ECU custom

tuning next.

Hi
cant wait to see the dynos.

also would V8 fit in 1995 C36 with stock tranny.

how much does the actual labor cost of swapping motors.

how much hp/torque can a stock 4 speed c36 tranny hold?

how much hp/torque can a stock 4 speed c36 tranny hold? No ,none of the MB V8's would bolt up to that tranny.I know someone with a C32 motor with paper wrk and all, that would more than probably wrk in your car.

Labor to do a C43 to C55 swap can range from $1500.00 to $3000.00.

Finally the c36 tranny can take alot of abuse. My buddy who is my mechanic has a twin turbo C36 with the stck tranny and it's faster than my c55 conversion.

twin turbo sounds so tempting.

do you know how much hp is he running?

was turbo upgrade a completely custom job or he bought a kit? Did he need to do engine work like headgasket , other parts?

would it be cheaper to do twin turbo upgrade versus c32 engine?

thanks
ps. i am in nyc where is your mechanic?

coolcarlskic43,

Do you feel any difference in the cars handling, turn-in, change of direction, etc. It does have a heavier crank, etc, right?

Very curious about this aspect of the upgrade.

Thanks,

Jeff

Thanks,

Jeff Theoretically the car is supposed to be 50lbs

heavier. The 50lbs is perhaps because of the crank and nothing

else I can see.If it is I can't really notice perhaps because of the

power. An original w202 AMG C55 is actually heavier because it has a bigger

beefier diff with the 2.82 gear ratio and different bigger rear

subframe than my car.To me the car still handles very well in all aspects if not

better. The braking is still as excellent as b4.c By the way check your engine

mounts, because when we pulled the 4.3L( 82kmiles),BOTH of

them were broken. We changed them and to me this helped a

whole hell of alot with the cars handling and ride as well.Car now

feels much tighter. Speedy if you can ,I highly recommend the

mod.Higher displacement is the ticket.(5.0l)301cu.in, or favorably

(5.5l)332 cu in.I have no complaints about the weight and

handling, and the car feels very tossable and recovers very nicely

according to my buddy with the blk C43 and myself. No surprises

or change in direction.Just an option(bigger displ) that should have been

made available for the W202 AMG car in the first place like the

other MB cars.

I think the 5.5L engine's also supposed to have some trick cylinder sleeves [silica something; steel? iron?] that are pressed into the block while the aluminum is still hot so the sleeves and block fuse. I'd think some of the weight would be there too; few lbs per sleeve.
