With talk of oil going to $70 a barrel and my having to drive (about twice a month) 200 highway miles to Williamsburg + normal local driving. I've started to think about ways to save gas as I mod my car.

Of course the Pulleys should help, next I might lower the car, which should help (right?) for my highway driving at least. 10w30 oil should help.

Maybe better intake/exhaust should be on my lists of "things to do to my car"?

What else?

[I do have a Mazda protege sitting, covered, in my driveway, but that car gets like 28-30 mpg on the highway, my Benz gets 25-28 mpg highway, so it's not worth it to switch (plus the other factors like safety, no cruise control, etc).]

As of right now, it seems like most of the Mods I want to do will help my MPG (except of course the powerchip), can you think of anything else I can do?

i would just drive the protege to work and save the benz for weekends.

buy a SMART! Other than that, make sure your tires are properly inflated.

eco performance is wieght-lose,hard tires.
I'd like to chuck out my 300kg electric seats and replace with carbon buckets, but why do I own a benz again???...........

Well, I think the overall point is, if you are going to do a mod, you might as well try gain all you can (power, efficiency, and if you can lose some weight as well, great).

Look at the thread "C43 weight reduction program" or so. Speedybenz knocked off 233 pounds off an already fast car. There are some calculators out there that you can enter your HP and weight and get a good guess at your 1/4 time.

Here is a pretty good 1/4 mile calculator:

For example, I want to change my battery, I found one that is 30 pounds lighter!

But of course, you are correct about owning a benz, we bought it for certain reasons.
