Another C36 Exhaust Thread! but this one will be awesome

There comes a time in every car enthusiasts life when his car is just too damn.....quiet. I have my Intake from the old C280 on the C36 now, sligtly louder, but not nearly enough.
I NEED SOME BURBLE IN MY LIFE!!!! On the 94' C280 I had cats to a 14" round magnaflow resonator and universal magnaflow muffler, which i liked alot, a nice deep tone but not too loud. The AMG is a performance car, though, and needs some mean noises to back it up.

So. Heres the deal. Ive been thinking of some possible exhaust options for the C36 and Ive come down to this as my personal favorite.

The stock exhaust has too many "Y" pipes into and out of the cats/resonators. (this affects tone ect) I want to simplify it with just one Y off the 2 header downpipes to a 3" SS pipe to the new stuff which I'll detail below. BTW stock AMG pipe is 2.75" which will work well with 3"

--Catalytic Converter delete...cuz I like the smell of unburnt gas and flames out the exhaust ;) It will add some burble back as well
--Resonator upgrade. 3" Vibrant SS bottle resonator 12" length.

--2 1/2" or 3" QTP Electric Cutout I have laying around right after the Vibrant Resonator. AMG res is 24" long, the Vibrant/QTP combo is the same....perfect ;)

--Factory AMG muffler for the time being, I like the way it looks, if this combo doesn't sound good ill get a Vibrant rear muffler or something

Now the idea being that with the cats gone (still debating) and a much smaller resonator to the AMG muffler will provide a much nicer tone with some more volume. And when im feeling crazy I can open up the cutout after the Vibrant resonator for an even louder time (I haven't decided if i want to put the cutout before or after the res. No cats means full straight pipe if I go the "before res" route hahaha!)

What do you guys think..too quiet, too loud.. just right? suggestions comments concerns? all are welcome and you best believe there will be a video when Im done!

reso and cat delete on the c36 sounds rasp like the e46m3. muffler delete would sound deep very low

Go for it! I've been pondering getting electric cutouts. I can vouch for vibrant's quality as well. I have a resonator and muffler of theirs and the car sounds great. Nice burble and pops on the over run but not what any one would call "loud" by tuner standards. I have actually visibly popped flames twice with this setup, it's hard to reproduce though. If you either go sport cats or just dump them altogether you should be screaming. I think its safe to assume any W202 stock cats are burnt out by 2012 anyways. IMO I6's can never be too loud.

the inline 6 is an amazing sounding engine, Keep in mind that every c36 sounds a little dfferent, depends on the condition of the engine, and exhaust system! Once my stock c36 is warmed up it sounds amazing, cold it's a little boring if you are used to have a sport exhaust like the op.
for the little more sporty noise I would highly recommend to go cat delete. That might not be enough for you since you are used to the badass c280, so reso and cats is a good idea for you. It al depends on tase for my like I prefer the deep stock sound. I wonder what the best way is to make the c36 louder but not more rasp I assume a different muffler would create this sound. I am looking forward you posting an exhaust clip:). I'm not sure what I am gonne do to my own c36 its exhaust, at first I wanted to install an eisenmann race muffler, but I'm not to sure if it wouldn't be to loud.

a bigger diameter exhaust (2.5inch since its N/A) and a quality muffler and resonator with the cats removed would work to get a deep sound.

If you keep the rear muffler you may as well not do any of this..... take a look at how restrictive it is, it'll be the first thing i remove in a few weeks

I6's can never be too loud. +1
at least when compared to the small I4's (mostly honda's which i personally find annoying sometimes tho there are good sounding ones)

it might not be a C36 but i have a I6 with 3.5" straight from the turbine to the rear, no resonators no cats no mufflers.
sounds like a bus in low revs but once over 2500rpm its singing.
thinking of getting a 4" inlet rear muffler to get rid of the low revs crap sound.

ev. Oh I know what you mean!! I love the sound of the M104 especially the 3.6 (RB's and JZs sound amazing! thats the sound im going for albeit without the turbo....for now haha!) My C280 stayed at redline most of the time I had it haha the thing screamed like a madman! Though I like a nice loud exhaust, I like the ability to drive fast without drawing too much attention to myself from the fun police ie the actual police! Hence the cutout!

Dearlove, yeah I realize that I could get a less restrictive rear muffler (straight-thru magnaflow or vibrant would be my choices) and that would automatically improve the sound. The main thing I'm going for is a slightly more enhanced tone with the smaller Vibrant resonator and cat delete. Now, This is where the electric cutout comes in. I've come to like the quiet about 10% of the time lol!, but its just too quiet for me the other 90%. The cutout will allow me to cater the sound to my tastes at the moment, its variable in its opening basically bypassing the AMG muffler for full flow. This upgrade wasn't really about performance, as exhaust barely will give you any power, maybe 10-15 though i could be wrong on the C36. Stock AMG exhaust is huge for a NA I6 2.75" is unheard of. Cats are huge Res is huge, they remove too much sound.

I also really like the way the AMG muffler looks for the time being. Its very easy to change the rear muffler on the w202 though, so If I change my mind the AMG muffler just unbolts unlike the C280

yeah just go for it if you dont like it its always easy and quite cheap to mod the exhaust.

ughhhh sooo glorious. I need turbo in my life!! My friends keep telling me to do a 1jz swap (they are all jdm import guys) while I know the aftermarket support for those engines is 100 times better, Something about having one of the few turbo C36's out there makes me happy, which is why that project is on my list sometime in the future!
