If I made my own catback piping, what does everyone think of this idea? How bout soundwise, I know it would be quiet, but with some catback piping, would it give it a nice grunt? Thanks...I found a nice C36 muffler, and I am still wondering whether to go this route or just save up for an Eisenmann.

Note: 23K, I read what you did with a C36 muffler, would it give that nice tone with a 2.25" catback all the way (fingers crossed)? I also would have the resonator to use, I am not sure if this makes a difference.

Hey,
hmmm i couldnt say for sure man,but i would think it will lean towards the quieter end of the scale...
Personal preferance plays a big part along with what you deem to loud/quiet etc...

If you didnt go with the Eisenmann, you could install the 36 muff without a resonator and add one if needed...

how much is the C36?,is it second hand?,i see the Eisenmann item is around 720USD on there site!

Yeah, I would be paying 375USD shipped for the C36 muffler (with over 100k miles on it), but I think I should just save up for the Eisenmann (710USD shipped). I am looking for a little throaty sound, and I know that AMG exhaust are always a little reserved, and to even get the sound I want, I would probably end up paying the same amount to get the catback made. Thanks for the help, Paul!

I just installed an eisenmann race exhaust on my C36 today and it sounds crazy! At WOT the car sounds like a DTM Benz. BTW...I'm not using a resonator.

Just remember....the inlet pipe on the C36 muffler is 2 3/4 inches (at least my 1995 AMG muffler is...don't know about 1996-1997 model). So....if you do install the AMG muffler, try to find 2 3/4 pipe to go from Cat....or just use 2 1/2 inch pipe and have an exhaust shop use an expansion coupling to make it fit. A good exhaust shop will be able to tell you what size to use. Pipe diameter can play a big role in the sound you want.

IMO........save up and buy the eisenmann. I bought it because even with the resonator removed...the AMG muffler a idle and cruising speed sounded the same......only a mild difference at full throttle.

Buy the eisenmann!!!
